yeah, well this is not that. if i had known they weren't just isolated events i would have kept better track.
and sometimes i think it's all in my head (why is no one else around when this happens!) so i'm going to share with you thee incredible comments/questions we receive on a regular basis in regards to our marriage bed and conception plans. i kid you not.
i also am doing this to hopefully educate and buck the taboo surrounding TTC (trying to conceive)* and all that it entails. i shall begin with a most recent encounter...
alrighty... so i get to church, sit down in front of some cute old ladies, introduce myself... after a bit, during the announcements for VBS (vacaction bible school) one of the ladies Nancy, leans forward and asks me, 'do you have children?' i respond with 'not yet' was going to add my part about 'waiting and hoping/trusting the Lord' when she then asked 'are you married?' to which i smiled and said 'yes' and she came right back with 'well then get busy so your kids can come to VBS.'
no. i do not make this stuff up. (should i be releived that this time i didn't 'look' pregnant?)
what bugs me the most is that i did my nervous laugh and didn't respond right away with the response that came to me 10 seconds later which was,
'If it were only as simple as 'getting busy' we'd be pregnant many times over by now.'
things wrong with what she said;
-that if you don't have children you must not be wanting/trying to
-she doesn't know that i didn't just miscarry or just experience another negative pregnancy test earlier that week
-she commented on our marriage bed activities -she made an assumption of our marriage bed activities or the lack there of
-the thought that all you need to do is engage in oneness and you'll instantly be pregnant (perhaps for her that was the case?)
*again, we are not -per a medical professional's definition- TTC. we ARE not preventing conception in any way. i can explain further if u'd like.
Oh man, I wish people would keep such comments to themselves. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. I'll be praying for you!
